"President Donald Trump has signed a repeal of internet privacy rules despite criticism that it threatens to undermine online safety and enable unconstitutional mass surveillance.

The overturning of the Obama-era privacy protections, which was supported by Congress in a March 28 vote, will allow internet providers to share personal information with advertisers and other third parties without consumer consent."

Our Internet Providers, AT&T and Comcast and Charter, or whoever you use, Can Sell your Browsing history, including your online banking history. And they don't even have to tell you who they are selling it to, or even that they are doing so.

There's so much going on with various scandals that things like this get pushed to the side and no one notices.

Along with being able to sell your information, this also lets them redirect you to a paid advertiser's website when you intend to go to a different website.

For the first time I'm starting to research VPNs (Virtual Private Network) for my own use. My workplace uses one when I log in from home. I never felt the need for one until now.

(I owe you a decent email, but I am so overwhelmed with my son's school and scholarship deadlines, along with senior functions - I can hardly think straight! Just didn't want you to think I'd forgotten you!)

I was sort of surprised there wasn't more feedback on this post. Then again, so many of the people on lj don't live in the US, and I'm not sure how much this news will impact them. I feel my privacy is being horribly violated, not only that but the thing about sharing all of your banking information. Yikes. I don't do my banking by internet, but a lot of people do. I just seems like too much possibility for lots of fraud.

I can't believe how much advertising and advertisers are taking over the internet. I swear sometimes it's faster to go to either the phone book or a map, (if your can still find) instead of wading through the various adds that pop up while trying to find the information.

Hey love, don't worry about it. I remember how hectic life as a the parent of a soon to be recent grad. I'm so envious of your trip to Amsterdam. Should be fantastic.
